GEMS Privacy Policy

GEMS respects your right to privacy and is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust. We do not sell or rent any information you provide us through our website. We have created the following privacy policy to inform you about the ways in which we collect and use this information.

GEMS does not collect any information from you without your knowledge and permission, and we do not ask that you enter any personal information to access or use most areas of the GEMS website. In order to subscribe to our mailing list or submit forms and petitions, however, you must enter some identifying information. GEMS does not disclose this information to anyone except 1) to identify you, as described in the following five paragraphs, to those you contact through our website and 2) to manage our website and database with the help of third-party service providers, who are subject to a non-disclosure agreement. Information you provide GEMS is stored in a secure location and is accessible only by designated staff.

Online Activism

To enter a pledge or send a message from our online petitions to government officials and other decision-makers you must identify yourself by name, address and email address. GEMS includes this information when we send your message. This is necessary for your message to be effective, and in the case of many government officials it is required.

Other Places Information May Be Requested

In addition to information you enter when sending messages to friends and decision-makers from GEMS’ website, you may submit information directly to GEMS for purposes including donating, subscribing to an email bulletin, RSVPing for an event or entering a contest. GEMS will not disclose this information to anyone except in accordance with any rules you agree to at the time of submission, as described above, to manage our website and database with the help of third-party service providers, who are subject to a non-disclosure agreement.

Secure Transactions

When you donate to GEMS via our website or purchase products from our Gift Shop, your information is encrypted and transmitted via a secure connection. Donations are processed by our online philanthropy partner Network for Good.  Shop purchases are processed by our e-commerce partner PayPal.com.  In all cases, your credit card information is used only for the purpose of processing your transaction. We will not disclose this information except as necessary to process your transaction and our partners will not store it once your donation has been processed unless elected by you while completing your transaction.

Donors who make financial contributions to GEMS through our website will have their name and mailing address added to the agency’s donor mailing list. GEMS does not share or sell names, addresses or e-mail addresses with other entities.  If you would like to make any changes to the information GEMS has on file, please contact us at development@gems-girls.org or 212.926.8089.
