Rachel Lloyd is ‘Heroes for Youth’ Award Winner

Please join us in congratulating our founder and executive director, Rachel Lloyd, in being named the 2009 HEROES for Youth Award winner.  Southwest Airlines sponsors the HEROES for Youth Award established by National Safe Place to recognize an individual each year who have made an extraordinary contribution nationally to the services provided to at-risk youth. As a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation and having only been in the US for one year, Rachel founded GEMS in 1998 at the age of 23. A program that began on her kitchen-table with $30, and a borrowed computer, has grown into the nation’s largest provider of services to commercially sexually exploited and trafficked youth and has made huge strides in raising public awareness and changing policy.
