Youth Outreach Manager

Position Summary: The Youth Outreach Manager oversees the Youth Outreach program, outreach activities including supervising and guiding the youth outreach team through a supportive, positive team building approach to program leadership.  GEMS Youth Outreach Program has been an integral component of the comprehensive services the organization provides to commercially sexually exploited and domestically trafficked girls and young women in the New York City area.

Tasks and Responsibilities: This statement of duties is for purpose of identifying this position but it is not limited to:

Key Duties:

  • Resources and Referral
  • o   Design and manages the master list of referrals
    o   Initiates and maintains relationship with providers offering services for youth ages 14 – 24 to ensure regular update of master referral list
    o   Responsible managing the design and delivery of themed monthly events and activities for youth
    o   Design and establishes protocols and procedures on how the resources and the referrals will be managed.

    • The Outreach
    • o   Responsible for the coordination of community based workshop, presentations, and film screenings in a variety of settings including but not limited to schools, detention facilities, community based organizations, and as part of GEMS larger youth development programming
      o   In collaboration with the Program Director will also help to organize advocacy efforts and public awareness events such as End CSEC Day.
      o   Responsible for leading the Youth Leadership Institute, including the design of the agenda, curriculum, identifying and scheduling guest speakers, etc
      o   Responsible for leading the Youth Professional Development initiative, including the design of the training schedule, identifying and scheduling guest speakers, etc.
      o   Responsible for identifying fellowship opportunities within GEMS for those participants attending the program
      o   Represent GEMS at youth events, neighborhood events; community boards youth committee meetings.  When needed responsible for tabling at these events.
      o   Responsible for researching opportunities to partner with other community organizations
      o   Manage community partnership agreement contracts
      o   Manage and monitor all data entry related to the youth outreach
      o   Ensures that proper documentation and outreach notes are kept in a timely manner
      o   Responsible for the update of all manuals
      o   Responsible for attending Managers meetings

      • Staff The Outreach
      • o   Responsible for managing the Youth Outreach Team
        o   Responsible for creating a positive team atmosphere
        o   Responsible for managing objectives and goals of the team
        o   Responsible for providing leadership to day-to-day operations of the unit
        o   Responsible for conducting weekly supervisory 1-2-1 meetings with team members
        o   In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, responsible for conducting performance review of the team members and providing them with development plans when needed
        o   Youth Leadership, mentoring and professional development of YL Interns and Fellows.
        o   Responsible for managing volunteers and fellows assigned to the unit
        o   Responsible for managing attendance and proper staff coverage of the unit
        o   Responsible for proving team members timesheets
        o   Responsible for guiding and training the team, including volunteers and fellows on public speaking skills and how to better conduct any of GEMS outreach presentations

        Additional Qualifications:

        • At least 2 years of field experience
        • At least 3 – 5  years of  experience in a supervisory role
        • At least 2  years of experience in public speaking, experience with community based presentations strongly preferred
        • At least 3 years of experience collaborating with community and government agencies
        • Strong understanding of CSEC
        •  Experience coordinating and facilitating group discussions and workshops with youth
        •  Knowledge of the legal system and experience working with incarcerated youth preferred
