Julie Laurence, LCSW

Clinical Director

As Clinical Director, Julie Laurence provides clinical support to members, supervises the transitional independent living residence and outreach team, and leads special groups and trainings.

Julie is a social work professional with over 13 years of experience in mental health counseling, program development and advocating for disenfranchised youth and young adults and social justice. Before coming to GEMS, Julie worked as a social worker at the Children’s Law Center in Brooklyn and at CASES in New York City overseeing in-takes, mental health assessments, and community partnerships for youth returning from incarceration as well as a Family Therapist for Women In Need homeless shelter. She is a Social Work Field Instructor and Supervisor at Make the Road by Walking, and a member of the New York City Association of Homeless and Street-Involved Youth Organizations Steering Committee.

Julie received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College and her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loyola College.
