Jennie Kim
Transitional Independent Living Residential Counselor
As a Transitional Independent Living Residential (TIL) Counselor, Jennie Kim regularly engages with GEMS residents to address their emotional, physical, and spiritual needs and concerns. She is a liaison between residents and senior staff to ensure that all matters are thoroughly communicated. She organizes weekly house meetings to deliver and address information regarding the TIL and its residents and also facilitates weekly art groups where residents develop skills and exercise creative expression.
After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts, Jennie traveled to Cambodia to teach art and English to over five hundred Khmer students ages five to twenty-four in rural Kampong Cham. After returning to the United States, she helped to launch the Supply Education Group, an organization that provides educational resources and materials to students in developing nations. As a Programs Coordinator, she traveled to Costa Rica to assess the educational climate in the city of San Jose with a group of American high school students.
Jennie is committed to young people and understands the importance of mentorship and positive guidance during their formative years. She continues to volunteer her time locally to mentor and maintain relationships with adolescents.
